Nine-year-old quartet showcase their talents at Southend on Sea Swimming Club

SOUTHEND-ON-SEA Swimming Club’s talented nine-year-olds – Erin Wilkinson, Holly Lamb, Lydia Davis and Harry Richardson – have been showing their class in the pool.

The youngsters made their pool debut at the Essex County Age Group Championships at Basildon’s Sporting Village in Gloucester Park.

The youngsters qualified for a total of 20 events in their age group.

Lamb was placed second in the 200m breaststroke and third in the 200m free, and made the finals in the 100m and 200m individual medley (IM) and 50m breaststroke.

Wilkinson made the finals of the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 200m IM.

Other swimmers from the club collecting medals were Charlie Pond Thompson, swimming in the 17 and over age group. He was second in the 100m backstroke and 50 butterfly and third in the 100 IM and fourth in the 50m backstroke.

Jack Overell in the 16 years age group recorded personal best (PB) times in all six events, collecting third in the 200m breaststroke, fourth in the 100m breaststroke and fifth in the 50m breaststroke.

Amelia Knowles was third in the 17-and-over 100m butterfly and Liberty Good was fourth in both the 16 years 400m and 800m freestyle.

Southend swimmers competing at the event and recording PBs in their events were Harry Baskett, Lewis Bayley, Andrei Gare, Tommy Grant, Kieran Wilkinson, Millie Amos, Abigail Last, Abigail Rice and Zara Mills.

Meanwhile, 26 club members competed at the Borough of Waltham Forest Age Group Competition.

Lydia Davis was second in the nine years 50m butterfly and third in the 200m indivudual medley. Bridie Parks was third in the 11 years 100m backstroke and fourth in the 50m freestyle.

Other success went to Masie Bell who was fifth in the 11 years 50m freestyle, Sophie Sharpe was first in the 12 years 50m butterfly and sixth in the 100m individual medley.

Victoria Grant was third in the 12 years 50m freestyle and sixth in the 200m breaststroke, while Tate Allen was fifth in the 12 years 50m freestyle.

Abigail Rice was third in the 12 years 50m backstroke, and fourth in both the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.

Josie Lingham was second in the 13 years 100m backstroke and 200m breaststroke, and also third in the 200 IM. Finley Bell was sixth in the nine years 50m freestyle and Harvey Last was sixth in the 10 years 200m freestyle.

Oliver Whitney was third in the 10 years 200m breaststroke and fifth in the 50m freestyle, while Jack Baskett was the runner up in the 10 years 200m breaststroke and third in the 50m freestyle.

Mackenzie Ritchie was second in the 11 years 50m backstroke and sixth in the 100m IM.

Patrick Milner was first in the 11 years 50m free and sixth in the 200m free and 50m freestyle.

George Stone was third in the 11 years 50m breaststroke, fourth in the 50m free and 200m breaststroke. Luke Chapman was sixth in the 11 years 50m freestyle, while Andrei Gare scooped first place in the 12 years 50m butterfly and also first in the 200m IM, second in the 100m backstroke and fifth in the 100m free.

There was success too for Ryan Lingham who was third in the 12 years 200m breaststroke competition and Harry Baskett was the winner in the 13 years 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke. He was also the runner up in the 200m IM and 100m freestyle.

Tommy Grant was first in the 15 years 200m IM and 100m freestyle, Joshua Milner was second in the 15 years 50m breaststroke and the 50m freestyle and fifth in the 100m freestyle.
