Swim England Essex in mourning: Fred Gale
Read MoreCity of Southend-on-Sea Swimming Club is a competitive swimming club established in 1894. Originally the club trained in a 50-yard open air pool on Westcliff seafront. This site is now the home of Genting Casino. In 1969 after joining with Leigh Swimming Club the new Southend and Leigh Swimming Club (SALS) moved to a new indoor pool at Warrior Square. In the 1980’s the Club reverted to its previous name Southend-on-Sea Swimming Club. In 2010 the Club moved to the new Southend Swimming and Diving Centre at Garon Park. As part of the Queens Jubilee celebrations in 2022 Southend on Sea was awarded city status and the club became City of Southend on Sea Swimming Club.
The Club has a long history of success: Olympians Mark Foster, Sarah Hardcastle and Jackie Wilmott were all former members. The Club is a friendly, competitive club, providing opportunities for all. Our highly qualified and experienced coaching team share their expertise and love of swimming with all members. Every swimmer, from beginners in the Academy to those competing at National level, are encouraged to reach their true potential. The Club is Swim England SwimMark accredited and has adopted the Swim England child protection/equity policy with a Welfare Officer sitting on the Club Committee. The Club is non-profit making, run by a committee elected each year at the Club’s AGM. The committee members are all unpaid volunteers who do an amazing job providing the day-to-day administration needed to run the Club behind the scenes. New committee members are always welcome.
