Academy

Our aim at Southend-on-sea Swimming Club Academy is to provide a safe, fun environment for the teaching and development of young swimmers. Our qualified and experienced team of teachers and coaches encourage every child to reach their full potential. Our focus centres on the development of the technical skills required for all four swimming strokes ie Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Frontcrawl. Children in the Academy complete the Swim England stages for badges and challenge awards and are encouraged to compete in home galas when they have developed the relevant skills. All swimmers in the Academy are able to progress to the clubs Development Squads at Garon once they have reached the required standard.

Information about lessons

Academy lessons are held at Belfairs Pool (Fairview Gardens, Leigh-on-sea SS9 3PE) on Monday and Wednesday evenings, with ability group sessions held between 6pm -7.30pm. Sessions available are either 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour, dependent upon ability, progressing from once a week to twice a week.

Swimmers in:

• Academy groups 3,2, & 1 will swim one 30 minute session per week
• Bronze & Silver groups will swim 2 sessions per week as one 30 minute session and one 45 minute session
• Gold group will swim 2 sessions per week as one 1 hour session and one 45 minute session

Academy groups 3, 2 & 1 will progressively develop strokes and technique below before advancing to Bronze group:

Academy 3 – Stroke development skills & technique front and back> Progress to Academy 2

Academy 2 – Stroke development skills & technique, introduce breaststroke > Progress to Academy 1

Academy 1 – Stroke technique (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Frontcrawl) > Progress to Bronze Group

BRONZE Group– Swim England NPTS level 5

1 x 30 minute, and 1 x 45 minute swim sessions per week > Progress to Academy Silver

SILVER Group – Swim England NPTS level 6

1 x 30 minute and 1 x 45 minute swim sessions per week > Progress to Academy Gold

GOLD Group – Swim England NPTS level 6/7

1 x 1 hour and 1 x 45 minute swim sessions per week > Progress to Development Blue Squad

Fees include Swim England registration. New members receive a club hat when paying the £15 joining fee.
