Southend-on-Sea Swimming Club (SOSSC) is a competitive swimming club established in 1894. Originally the club trained in a 50-yard open air pool on Westcliff seafront. This site is now the home of Genting Casino. In 1969 after joining with Leigh Swimming Club the new Southend and Leigh Swimming Club (SALS) moved to Warrior Square. In the 1980’s the Club reverted to its previous name Southend-on-Sea Swimming Club. In 2010 the Club moved to the new Southend Swimming and Diving Centre at Garon Park.
The Club has a long history of success producing Olympic swimmers Mark Foster, Sarah Hardcastle and Jackie Wilmott. We are a friendly, competitive club, providing opportunities for all. Every swimmer from beginners in the Academy to those competing at National level are encouraged to reach their maximum potential. The Club has adopted the ASA child protection/equity policy. A child Welfare Officer and Disability Officer sit on the Executive Committee. The Club is Swim 21 kitemark accredited.
The Club is very lucky to have a coaching team of 15 coaches and teachers working with our swimmers. The team is committed to updating their knowledge by attending relevant courses and seminars. The Club is run by a committee elected each year at the Club’s AGM. The committee members are all unpaid volunteers who do a significant job of providing the day-to-day administration needed to run the Club behind the scenes. New committee members are always welcome.
